Formals on Squaw Peak Road

These images don’t look it – but this session was thrown together in a matter of days.

Josh and Kristin were planning to get married in May. However with the coronavirus chaos, their plans were changed for them, and instead of waiting until May, they got married in March. The week of the new wedding date was a really good example to me of what families can do together to take the unexpected and make it beautiful.

I was really grateful I got to take these photos for them. It was a perfect opportunity for me to take photos in the middle of the day and practice composing photos in harsh light. Light is always the beast to tame when you’re taking photos – sometimes it’s on your side, and other times it’s tricky. Typically harsh light is the less-than-ideal situation, but it can give you photos like this that are bright, beautiful, and even backlit.

My favorite part about this session was the fact that we took these in a parking lot of sorts up Provo Canyon. From that parking lot you get a beautiful view of the mouth of the canyon. However, since it was in a parking lot, there were cars and passengers in those cars watching us take photos. Being the subject of photos can definitely make one feel vulnerable. You don’t know what you look like, you don’t know if you are posing right, if your smile, hair, outfit, etc looks just right. But imagine having an audience. Yikes! These two made the most of it and we laughed over it several times.
